Captain Maktoum Al Houqani

Managing Director – AbuDhabi Maritime Academy

A former seafarer, Captain Maktoum Al Houqani assumed different roles aboard seagoing vessels, mainly oil tankers and LNG carriers. He then worked in petroleum ports, first as tug master then later as pilot, steering various types of vessels.

Throughout his experience in the maritime industry, he also supervised a major reclamation project for artificial islands constructed for the ADNOC group of companies. This involvement has profoundly enriched his experience in the offshore industry.

In 2009, Captain Al Houqani obtained his master degree in maritime studies from the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) at the University of Wollongong. After his graduation, he was appointed as Manager of the off-shore petroleum ports.

He later became the Senior Vice President for the Operations in IRSHAD from 2011 and until 2015.

In Sep 2015, Captain Al Houqani joined Abu Dhabi Ports as Chief Marine Services Officer, and became in charge of the newly formed subsidiary Abu Dhabi Marine Services Company (SAFEEN).

Hamad Al Maghrabi

Director – AbuDhabi Maritime Academy

Hamad Al Maghrabi is the General Manager of Abu Dhabi Marine Services (Safeen), a wholly owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Ports. In this role, he is responsible for providing professional, world-class and quality marine services across the seaports of Abu Dhabi.

Before taking up his new position, Al Maghrabi was the Senior Operations Manager – Ports Unit at Abu Dhabi Ports, where he was responsible for delivering safe, secure, efficient and smooth operations across all the ports and waterways of Abu Dhabi Ports. He also helped the development and formation of Abu Dhabi Marine Services – Safeen and, among many other achievements, helped set and implement the highest performance standards for Ports Unit, in line with the UAE’s economic vision.

Al Maghrabi have more than 15 years of experience in the marine and ports industry, working at three major UAE-based maritime organisations. Prior to joining Abu Dhabi Ports, he was with Drydocks World, as the Managing Director of Jadaf Dubai, and Marine District Director at the Dubai Maritime City Industrial Area.

Early on in his career, Al Maghrabi was a Project Manager for the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). Projects included the construction of vessels for ADNOC Group Companies.

Al Maghrabi obtained a degree in Marine Engineering from the University of Northumbria, Newcastle, UK. He also studied at the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, USA as part of the Dubai Leaders Program.

Captain Ahmed Shazly

Head of the Academic Studies

Capt. Shazly is the Head of the Academic Studies and a Certified Instructor in Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy

Capt. Shazly is a qualified & self-motivated Master Mariner with over 29 years of service within the Maritime Sector. He has proven experience as a marine expert and lecturer crowned with the required competencies, knowledge and skills in diverse aspects of the maritime industry including Shipping, Education, Administration, and Ports.

Capt. Shazly holds a Master’s degree in Ports Management.

Captain Mazen Al Saad

Marine Short Courses Instructor

Capt. Mazen Al Saad is a Master on a variety of vessels in worldwide trading and a Certified Instructor in Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy.

Capt. Mazen Al Saad has more than 30 years of experience in the maritime industry; as a seafarer, and vast experience in different fields of Maritime Training, Occupational Health and Safety for offshore, and various onshore vessels serving worldwide.

In the last 15 years, he has been involved in Maritime Education and Tailor-made Training courses with the simulators to use it in training and assessment.

Captain Khurshid Khalid

Master Mariner

Capt. Khurshid Khalid has over sixteen years of sailing experience including commanding on ocean-going vessels of the reputed shipping companies, and he is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (MICS) U.K.

Capt. Khurshid Khalid has been teaching Logistics and Supply Chain Management to MBA students of various Universities along with ICS subjects since 1995 and has been conducting tailor-made courses for the Pakistan Navy. He had served as a Lecturer in Nautical Studies for three years with the Maritime Academy of Malaysia (ALAM)

For the last twenty-three years Capt. Khalid has a vast industry experience running his Shipping, Trading & Logistics firm with a focus on agency operations, ship chartering & brokerage, commodity trading and project logistics.

Capt. Khurshid Khalid has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the U.K. with distinction.

Srecko Tripovic

Marine TOT Instructor

A certified Instructor at Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy and a TOT specialist

Srecko Tripovic BSc has more than 20 years of experience in training of seafarers in various STCW mandatory and recommended courses including tailor-made/bespoke courses with the particular emphasis on the courses where simulators are used in training and assessment.

His in-depth knowledge of the operation of navigational and communication simulators led to a 10-year experience in the train-the-trainer role for new instructors on behalf of one of the major maritime simulator developers and makers that took him all over the world.

In addition to the use of simulators in maritime training and the implementation of the QMS standards in the maritime training sector, he also has more than 15 years of experience as the training manager of a state-of-the-art international maritime training centre.

Captain Rezaul Islam

Nautical Lecturer

He is a qualified Class 1 Master Mariner (UK) and Nautical Lecturer in Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy.

Captain Rezaul Islam has over 31 years’ experience in the international shipping, maritime field and over ten years’ of senior management experience on-board vessels.

He has extensive multi-national and multicultural sailing experience working in all sea areas on different vessels serving worldwide.

His extensive and diverse experience in shipping includes teaching at the Nautical College in the UK for the last 8 years and he is a proud Associate Fellow of Nautical Institute (AFNI).

Captain Rezaul Islam holds MBA in HRM (Canada) and Post-graduation in TQFE (UK).

Dr. Wilfredo Erenio Yutuc

Academic Programmes Instructor

Dr Wilfredo Erenio Yutuc is a certified Chief Marine Engineer, Ship’s Technical Superintendent, and engine room simulator trainer and assessor.

Dr Wilfredo Erenio Yutuc is a marine professional with 27 years of combined onboard and onshore experience. He has been in maritime education, training and research for 14 years.

He is a Chartered Engineer (UK Engineering Council), Chartered Marine Engineer, Chartered Marine Technologist, a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) and a life member of the International Maritime Lecturers’ Association (IMLA).

Dr Wilfredo Erenio Yutuc holds a PhD degree in Maritime Education.

Captain Clive Hotham

Head of the Marine Short Courses & Simulator

Captain Clive Hotham is the Head of the Marine Short Courses & Simulator Department at Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy.

Captain Clive Hotham brings more than 45 years of maritime experience to the role, in 17 of them he was as a Master Mariner on a variety of vessels in worldwide trading.

For the last 14 years has been involved in Maritime Education and Training. As well as extensive knowledge of maritime professional subjects that are core to the maritime world, his expertise is in Marine Simulation as a Tool for Education, Training, and Research.

Captain Clive Hotham has an MSc in Maritime Operations.
