July 8, 2021

Introduction:

The Marine Engineering Bridging Programme (MEBP) has been designed and developed to bridge the competency gap and qualify candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering for certification as Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch on a seagoing ship powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW propulsion power or more. It meets among others, all the minimum requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency in Table A-III/1 for the four (4) functions defined by the International Convention and Code of the Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) 1978, with the 2010 Manila Amendments for Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch (OICEW) in a manned engine room or Designated Duty Engineer (DDE) in a periodically unmanned engine room at the operational level.

A student graduate of the MEBP who has successfully completed the approved shipboard training programme will be eligible to sit for the Oral Examination at UAE Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure (MoEI) for the OICEW Certificate of Competency (COC).
