This is a practical course using the 360° Full Mission Bridge (FBM) utilising briefings for the underpinning knowledge.

This is a practical course using the 360° Full Mission Bridge (FBM) utilising briefings for the underpinning knowledge.

The course will cover the following theory and practical topics:

Introduction: registration and health and safety briefing.

General Overview: discussion on location, environmental constraints, types of manoeuvres.

Fendering: discussion on positioning and capabilities of fenders.

Interaction: discussion on interaction effects that will be encountered during the various stages of different STS manoeuvres.

Exercises in open seas, favourable weather conditions.

Exercises in restricted/sheltered waters, favourable weather conditions.

Exercises as outlined in 4 and 5 above, but with weather conditions at or just exceeding the recommended limits (these are run to show why the limits are in place and/or as a decision-making exercise for an abort).

Emergency Exercises: various scenarios incorporating steering failure, rudder jam, engine failure on either vessel.

Incident Review: recreation of past incidents to provide development and discussion on best practice.

Course Duration: 5 Days

Course Intake Limitations: A maximum of 4 participants on a course

Assessment: None

Attendance: 100% attendance is required

Entry Requirements: The course will be tailored to those attending but it is expected that they will be Masters and Senior Officers
