The course is designed to give candidates the necessary knowledge and skills for the operation and utilisation of Azimuthing propulsion systems. The participant will be given the underpinning knowledge needed with regard to the different advantages and hazards of azimuthing propulsion.
The course is designed to give candidates the necessary knowledge and skills for the operation and utilisation of Azimuthing propulsion systems. The participant will be given the underpinning knowledge needed with regard to the different advantages and hazards of azimuthing propulsion.
The practical exercises will be tailored to the type of vessel the participants will be engaged on and give them the skills in the use of azimuthing propulsion, to efficiently and safely manoeuvre a vessel in different environmental conditions.
The aim of the training programme is to increase the safe manoeuvring and navigation of vessels equipped with azimuthing propulsion.
At the end of the training the participant will have an understanding and ability to use:
- Different types of azimuthing propulsion
- Different types of controls
- Advantages and disadvantages of azimuthing propulsion
- The principles of using azimuthing propulsion for berthing, un-berthing, and close proximity manoeuvring both with static objects and underway.

Entry Requirements: There are no pre-entry requirements but it is expected that participants should have previously received training and gained experience in basic ship handling
