The initial part of the program will concentrate on the core knowledge and skills that are necessary regardless of the pilotage area or vessel type. In doing so, however, it will give the candidates a broader range of knowledge and skills than they would normally gain.

The initial part of the program will concentrate on the core knowledge and skills that are necessary regardless of the pilotage area or vessel type. In doing so, however, it will give the candidates a broader range of knowledge and skills than they would normally gain.

It is understood that every Pilotage Authority will have different requirements and that some will require a pilot to perform a secondary role in carrying out their duties.

These can be addressed by tailoring the latter part of the pilot training and adding any ancillary training that may be required.

Because simulation will play an essential role for a major part of the training program it will be possible to expose the candidates to infinitely variable areas, ports, vessels, environmental conditions, and events.

The use of simulation will mean that the total training time can be reduced without compromising the quality or extent of the training.
