This ship handling course focuses on practical ship handling based on best practice and theoretical knowledge and is tailored to the candidate’s level of expertise.
Ship handling tasks of increasing difficulty will be conducted in the simulator, reflecting the challenges Pilot Boat Masters meet in their daily work.
The course consists of theoretical lectures, simulator exercises and debriefings with use of sophisticated replay tools. The course duration, content, and exercises are based on input from our customer.
The aim of the course is to provide Pilot Boat Masters with theoretical and practical knowledge of how to safely and efficiently handle different types of pilot boat under the influence of various environmental conditions and furthermore to enhance skills through practical exercises.
Thereby the participants will gain an insight into the capabilities and limitations in manoeuvring different kinds of vessels.
At the end of the course, the participant will have an understanding of the effect, limitations, and practical application, subject to the level of the course, of the following:
The Pivot point, Fixed and variable pitch propellers, standard and high-efficiency rudders, thrusters, manoeuvring with Azimuthing propulsion, Constant Rate of Turn techniques, the impact of environmental effects (wind and current), hydrodynamic effects such as bank effect and ship-ship interaction.
