Level-5 Award in Maritime Logistics Management

Aim of the Course:

This Level-5 Award in Maritime Logistics Management aims to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and competencies in maritime economics and the operational, commercial and legal aspects of the shipping industry. Learners will be involved in planning and implementation of solutions, respond to complex problems and perform independently across a wide range of functions with limited supervision.

Structure of the Course:

The Level-5 Award in Maritime Logistics Management comprises four mandatory modules:

    • Introduction to Shipping
    • Economics of Sea Transport & International Trade
    • Shipping Business
    • Legal Principles in Shipping Business

These mandatory modules prepare the groundwork for the learner to take up the fifth specialist unit from the list of following twelve specialist modules:

      • Port Agency
      • Liner Trade
      • Dry Cargo Chartering
      • Tanker Chartering
      • Port & Terminal Management
      • Ship sale & Purchase
      • Logistics & Multi-modal Transport
      • Ship Operations & Management
      • Marine Insurance
      • Shipping Law
      • Shipping Finance
      • Offshore Support Industry

Course Outcome:

Thorough knowledge & understanding of:
1.Basic essentials of shipping including familiarization with the various types of ships and the range of practitioners in shipping industry.
2.Maritime Economics & International Trade including the demand and supply of shipping, the determination of price or freight & theory of trade
3.The main disciplines in shipping industry- dry cargo and tanker chartering, sale and purchase, ship management, port agency and liner trades.
4.The basic principles of law relating to matters frequently encountered in shipping business

This Course is designed to meet the needs of two main learner groups:
a) Individuals who are new to the Maritime Logistics industries and need to acquire new skills and knowledge to become more employable
b) Those who are currently working in these industries and wish to upgrade their skills and knowledge to advance their career.

Duration:
The course duration is six hundred (600) hours spread over thirty (30) weeks comprising four hundred and fifty (450) hours of classroom / online teaching, assignments, case studies, presentation and one hundred (150) hours of work based learning/internship. The classes will be conducted from Monday to Friday every week from 0800 hours to 1100 hours.

Attendance:
100 % attendance is required

Assessment:
Written assessments comprising subjective questions as well as Quiz and presentations with 60% passing marks

Entry Requirements:
The basic requirement for taking up this course is preferably a bachelor degree in any discipline but a minimum of twelve (12) years of structured education or Advanced Level (A ‘Level) or equivalent standard of education.

A valid English language proficiency certificate with a minimum score of either 1100 EmSAT, 5 IELTS, 500 TOEFL (PBT), 61 TOEFL (IBT), or 173 TOEFL (CBT).

Level-5 Award:
On successful completion of the Course comprising four mandatory modules, one specialist module from a list of twelve specialist units and a work based learning module, a Level-5 Award in Maritime Logistics Management will be issued by The Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy recognised by National Qualification Centre (NQC) U.A.E. certifying that the holder of the certificate has completed forty (40) credits (600 hours) of structured learning in Maritime Logistics Management. The Level-5 Award certificate will also provide details of the topics that are covered.

Accreditation:
The Level-5 Award Program follows the course curriculum of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) U.K and is approved by ICS UK and National Qualification Center Ministry of Educaiton, UAE.
