Elementary First Aid

This course gives all persons intending to go to sea, the education and training in Elementary First Aid to meet the Knowledge, Understanding, and Proficiency (KUP) requirements for pre-sea training.

This course gives all persons intending to go to sea, the education and training in Elementary First Aid to meet the Knowledge, Understanding, and Proficiency (KUP) requirements for pre-sea training.

This course aims to meet the mandatory minimum requirements for seafarers for familiarization, basic safety training, and instruction in accordance with Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code.

This syllabus covers the requirements of the STCW Convention Chapter VI, Section A-VI/1, Table AVI/1-3. On meeting the minimum standard of competence in elementary first aid, a trainee will be competent to take immediate action upon encountering an accident or medical emergency, until an individual with first aid skills or the person in charge of medical care on board takes over responsibility.

The learner understands what to do in case of an accident or medical emergency on board

The learner is able to apply elementary first aid techniques

Course Details

Course Duration: 2 days

Attendance: 100% attendance is required

Assessment: Practical Continuous Assessment and Written Assessment with 70% Pass Mark

Entry Requirements: The course is open to all seafarers who are to serve on board sea-going merchant ships. There are no particular educational requirements
