Certificate in Dry Cargo Chartering

The aim of this programme on Dry Cargo Chartering is to provide candidates with a thorough knowledge on the legal, economic, operational and commercial aspects of the shipping industry followed by a comprehensive and practical insight to the subject of Dry Cargo Chartering. The programme provides candidates with all the necessary knowledge to become an efficient, effective and professional ship and dry cargo broker.

The programme comprises five (05) modules. The first four modules are the four compulsory Group-1 subjects of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) U.K as follows:

• Shipping Business

The fifth module is “Dry Cargo Chartering” – the Group 2 specialist subject of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) U.K. covers the following key topics:

• Dry Cargo Ships
• Dry Cargo Ship Tonnages
• Freight Markets and Market Practice
• Chartering Contracts
• Financial Elements of the Charter Party
• Laytime Calculations
• Voyage Estimation
• Bills of Lading and Cargo Claims
• World Trades
• Disputes and Professional Indemnity

This programme is ideal for new starters or those working in the shipping business looking to further their knowledge in the dry bulk cargo sector of the shipping industry. It is also aimed at industry personnel who wish to proceed down the career path leading to the business of dry cargo chartering and brokerage. The programme will also be highly beneficial to students who simply wish to expand their knowledge of this specific sector of the shipping industry.

On successful completion of the programme, learners will have:

• Knowledge of the dry cargo market and how this part of the industry works.
• Knowledge of the role of the shipping practitioners – ship owner, charterer and shipbroker.
• Clear understanding of the employment of ships and the international trade practices, lay time calculations and bills of lading.
• Clear understanding of the nuts and bolts of the various time and voyage charter parties and relevant shipping documentation.

1. Level -5 Award in Maritime Logistics Management (Dry Cargo Chartering): 

On successful completion of the programme comprising the five (05) modules, a Level -5 Award in Maritime Logistics Management (Dry Cargo Chartering) will be issued by the Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy (ADMA), approved by the National Qualification Centre (NQC) Ministry of Education, U.A.E. The Level-5 Award certificate will provide details of the topics that are covered and certify that the holder of the certificate has completed forty credits (600 hours) of structured learning in Dry Cargo Chartering.

2. Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) U.K. Foundation Diploma / Advanced Diploma:

Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy (ADMA) is a Registered Training Provider (RTP) of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) U.K.  On completion of the program, the candidates may appear in the examinations of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) U.K conducted at the Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy (ADMA) in May and November every year. Upon passing these examinations, the candidates could obtain the internationally acclaimed Foundation Diploma / Advanced Diploma from the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) U.K. This may lead to the prestigious full Membership of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (MICS) U.K on passing the ICS Professional Qualifying Examinations (PQE).
