Basic Training For Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations (BOCT)

In accordance with STCW Code Table A-II/2 (masters and chief mates on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more)

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of resource manage-ment, leadership, and teamwork to fulfil the requirements of STCW 2010, Sections A-II/1 and A-II/2.

IMO Model Course 1.01

This course gives all persons intending to go to sea, the education and training in Basic Training for Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations to meet the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements for pre-sea training. This syllabus covers the requirements of the STCW Convention Chapter V, Regulation V/1-1 Para 1, and STCW Code Table A-V/1-1-1.

On meeting the minimum standard of competence in Basic Training for Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations. The course learning outcomes are:

  1. Contribute to safe cargo operation of oil and chemical tankers.
  2. Take precautions to prevent hazards.
  3. Applied occupational health and safety precautions and measures.
  4. Carry out fire fighting operations.
  5. Respond to emergencies.
  6. Take precautions to prevent pollution of the environment from the release of oil or chemicals.

Assessment: Theoretical and Practical

Attendance: 100% attendance is required

Entry Requirements: The course is open to all seafarers who are to serve on board sea-going merchant oil and chemical tankers.
