Advanced Diploma in Marine Engineering Technology (ADMET)

Introduction:

This program is primarily to equip learners with the knowledge, skills and competencies to perform safely and effectively the duties of a Marine Engineer Officer in charge of an engineering watch in a manned engine room, or designated duty engineer in a periodically unmanned engine room, on board ships of unlimited voyage in accordance with the International Convention and Code of the Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) 1978, with the 2010 Manila Amendments.

A student graduate of ADMET who has successfully completed the approved shipboard training programme is eligible to sit for the Oral Examination at the UAE Federal Maritime Authority (FMA) for an Officer In Charge of Engineering Watch (OICEW) Certificate of Competency (COC), an internationally recognized certificate to practice the profession on board local or international ships.

Alternatively, graduates of this program who wish to venture in a nonseafaring career may also pursue other professions in the maritime industry, which include:

  • Shipyard maintenance engineer
  • Classification society surveyor
  • Marine insurance surveyor
  • Offshore engineer
  • Engine maker specialist
  • Port state control officer
  • Power plant engineer
  • Maritime academician

Course Details:

Duration:

Three (3) years [i.e., thirty (30) months of academics plus six (6) months of seatime]

Entry Requirements:

Secondary School Certificate (G12) or equivalent – Science/Math Streams with overall grade of at least 75% and not less than 75% in English, Math and Science.

Medically and physically fit with the required eyesight standards for both visual acuity and colour vision with test results as per the IMO, ILO, MLC 2006 and FMA.

The medical examinations shall be conducted by any of the FMA Approved Medical Practitioner. A valid English language proficiency certificate with a minimum score of either 1100 EmSAT, 5 IELTS, 500 TOEFL (PBT), 61 TOEFL (IBT), or 173 TOEFL (CBT).

Accreditation:

The program is accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education (MOE) and Ministry (FMA).
