This program is primarily to equip learners with the knowledge, skills and competencies to perform safely and effectively the duties of a Marine Engineer Officer in charge of an engineering watch in a manned engine room, or designated duty engineer in a periodically unmanned engine room, on board ships of unlimited voyage in accordance with the International Convention and Code of the Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) 1978, with the 2010 Manila Amendments.
A student graduate of ADMET who has successfully completed the approved shipboard training programme is eligible to sit for the Oral Examination at the UAE Federal Maritime Authority (FMA) for an Officer In Charge of Engineering Watch (OICEW) Certificate of Competency (COC), an internationally recognized certificate to practice the profession on board local or international ships.
Alternatively, graduates of this program who wish to venture in a nonseafaring career may also pursue other professions in the maritime industry, which include:

- Shipyard maintenance engineer
- Classification society surveyor
- Marine insurance surveyor
- Offshore engineer
- Engine maker specialist
- Port state control officer
- Power plant engineer
- Maritime academician
