Advanced Diploma in Shipping & Maritime Operations – UAE

Introduction:

This program is intended to provide the students with the knowledge, skills and competency necessary to prepare them to perform safely and effectively the duties of an Officer in charge of a Navigational watch (OICNW), on board ships of unlimited voyage in accordance with the International Convention and STCW 1978, with the 2010 Manila Amendments.

Course Content:

The programme is comprised of three phases:

Phase 1
During this phase learners attend in the academy a full year of academic studies covering the basic sciences supporting the nautical fields and key knowledge in the functions of Navigation, Cargo handling and stowage, and controlling the operation of ship and care for persons on board.

Phase 2
The learner enrolls as Deck cadet in one of our partner companies to complete, the required seagoing service as per the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure guidelines and the academic credits following a shipboard structured training programme under academy’s supervision and guidance. On successful completion learner qualify for the Level-6 Advanced Diploma in Shipping and Maritime Operations qualification.

Phase 3
After completion of the required seagoing service, the Deck cadet joins the academy in order to complete the required Academic and STCW ancillary courses and prepare for the Coc written and oral examination by the FMA-MoEI. On successfully passing, the learners qualifies for the Certificate of Competency (CoC) Officer In Charge Of A Navigational Watch (OICNW) On Vessels Over 500 GT issued by Federal Maritime Authority of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), UAE

Course Details:

Duration:

3 years subject to completion of the seagoing service.

Entry Requirements:

General Secondary Certificate / Secondary School Diploma Certificate (Grade 12) in Science/Math Streams – with overall grade of at least 60%.

Medically and physically fit with the required eye sight standards for both visual acuity and colour vision with test results as per the IMO, ILO, MLC 2006 and the UAE Federal Maritime Authority (FMA). The medical examinations shall be conducted by any of the FMA Approved Medical Practitioner.

A valid English language proficiency certificate with a minimum score of either 1100 EmSAT, 5 IELTS, 500 TOEFL (PBT), 61 TOEFL (IBT), or 173 TOEFL (CBT).

Admission Process:

Application Review-> Interview -> Written test ->Selection -> Admission in Academy.

Accreditation:

The advanced diploma is accredited by the National Qualification Center of the Ministry of Education (NQC-MoE) while the overall OICNW program is accredited by the Federal Maritime Authority of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (FMA-MoEI).
