This is a theoretical and practical course that enables an understanding of shipboard organisation and operations, pilot ladders and means of access, cargo work, safety and seamanship, including knots, splicing and whipping and seizing.
Based on MNTB/MCA Guidelines to meet Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code.
This is a theoretical and practical course that enables an understanding of shipboard organisation and operations, pilot ladders and means of access, cargo work, safety and seamanship, including knots, splicing and whipping and seizing.
This course aims to meet the mandatory minimum requirements for seafarers for familiarisation, basic safety training and instruction in accordance with Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code.
A trainee successfully completing this course will have the knowledge to:
- Perform in a safe working environment on board ship
- Perform a range of seamanship tasks effectively
Have a working knowledge of COWSP
Course Details
Course Duration: 5 days
Assessment: Practical Assessment 70% Pass Mark
Attendance: 100% attendance is required
Entry Requirements: Must be aged 17 or over with a minimum of 6 months approved sea service in the deck department of sea going merchant ships and a navigational watch ratings certificate or a steering certificate.
