Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi is the Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of AD Ports Group, the leading global facilitator of logistics, industry, and trade. Listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, AD Ports Group’s vertically integrated business approach covers Digital, Economic Cities & Free Zones, Logistics, Maritime, and Ports, with a diverse portfolio of assets that includes more than 25 ports and terminals around the world.
In his role, Captain Al Shamisi is responsible for the organisation’s strategy, direction and global operations, he also takes the lead on the growth and expansion of AD Ports Group’s assets and development activities. Under his premiership, AD Ports Group has emerged as one of the most dynamic and innovative companies in the maritime, logistics and trade sectors.
A strong, determined and entrepreneurial leader, with almost 20 years of maritime and trade industry experience, Captain Al Shamisi capitalises on his substantial executive knowledge to guide the Group toward accelerating the UAE leadership’s vision of diversifying the non-oil and gas economy. During his tenure, AD Ports Group has evolved into a significant driver for economic growth and diversification, contributing AED 152.8 billion to UAE GDP, which represents 13 percent of the UAE’s non-oil GDP.
In addition to serving as Managing Director and GCEO at AD Ports Group, Captain Al Shamisi is currently the Chairman of Aramex, Chairman of Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Company (ADNEC), Chairman of the Arab Sea Port Federation and the Vice Chairman of UAE Sailing & Rowing Federation. He is also a Board Member of the MAKE A WISH Foundation, UAE.
Captain Al Shamisi holds an MBA, an advanced Diploma of Applied Science (shipmaster) and a Graduate Certificate of Management from the University of Tasmania, Australia.
Dr. Yasser Al Wahedi
President, Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy
Serving as President of Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, part of AD Ports Group, Dr Yasser Wahedi manages day-to-day operations at the Academy. He is responsible for developing and monitoring procedures and policies to ensure regulatory compliance, and is also charged with devising and implementing the Academy’s overall long-term strategic plans.
Prior to joining AD Ports Group, Dr Al Wahedi garnered more than 16 years’ experience in the field of industrial research and academia.
A seasoned educator, Dr Al Wahedi has taught university programmes to more than 700 students spanning various fields in Engineering. He also supervised and co-supervised numerous graduate students pursuing M.Sc. and PhD.
His research includes authoring and co-authoring more than 40 journal publications including one featured in the prestigious Science.
He has served in several research committees, and held the role of Chief Technology Officer at the Gas Research Center, where he became well versed in establishing research administrative procedures and policies, managing project portfolios valued at USD 32 million, and directly managing research projects worth USD 3.2 million.
A committed and noteworthy inventor, Dr Al Wahedi is a patent holder of two granted patent and three filed patents.
Dr Al Wahedi received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in the United State ranked third over USA in 2015.
