Pleasure Boat Under 12 Metres

This course gives all persons intending to operate a Pleasure Boat under 12m in length, the education and training to meet the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements for carrying out the role of Skipper. This course aims to meet the mandatory minimum requirements as laid down by the Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure (MoEI), Land and Marine.

Introduction

This course gives all persons intending to operate a Pleasure Boat under 12m in length, the education and training to meet the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements for carrying out the role of Skipper. This course aims to meet the mandatory minimum requirements as laid down by the Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure (MoEI), Land and Marine.

Learning Outcomes

This syllabus covers the requirements set out by the MoEI. On meeting the minimum standard of competence, a trainee will be competent to take charge of a pleasure boat under 12m in length.

At the end of the course the trainee will:

  1. Understand the theoretical aspects of operating a pleasure boat under 12m
  2. Have demonstrated competence in the practical tasks involved in operating a pleasure boat under 12m

Entry Requirements

First: General requirements

  1. The trainee must provide a medical fitness certificate issued by certified hospitals in UAE.
  2. To apply for a small boat driving license a non UAE citizen must have a valid residency in the UAE.
  3. The trainee must pass the theoretical exam after completion of the training course.
  4. The exam contains 50 questions, each question rating two marks.
  5. Passing average in the exam is 70% either oral or theoretical
  6. Illiterate applicants must obtain approval from MoEI prior to attending the course. Maritime Institute is responsible to provide necessary teaching tools and facilities to deliver the course in an easy and flexible manner based on the capabilities of the applicant. After completion of the training course , the Maritime Institute, conducts an oral exam, rather than the theoretical exam.
  7. Upon passing the exam, the Academy will issue a certificate (in English and Arabic language) to the successful trainee with a note on the certificate as follows: (This certificate does not entitle the holder to drive the boat unless he/she recieves a “Small Boat Driving License” issued by Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure).
  8. After passing the exam successfully, the Academy will apply electronically via MoEI to acquire a driver’s licence for the candidate according to the approved category.
  9. A Small Boat driving licence is valid for one year renewable annually.

Second: To obtain a small boat driving licence not more than 12 metres.

  1. The applicant must attend the training course at the Academy for at least two days at a rate of at least 14 hours to cover theoretical and practical parts with practical assessment after completion of the practical training.
  2. Minimum age of the applicant is 16 years to receive a pleasure boat driving licence up to 12m.

Course Details

Course Duration: 2 Days.

Assessment: Written assessment with 70% pass mark.

Attendance: 100% attendance is required.

Accreditation: MoEI (UAE).
