The aim of this diploma in Port & Terminal Management is to provide candidates with a thorough knowledge on the legal, economic, operational and commercial aspects of the shipping industry followed by a comprehensive and practical insight into the specialist subject of Port & Terminal Management.

Aim of the Diploma:

The aim of this diploma in Port & Terminal Management is to provide candidates with a thorough knowledge on the legal, economic, operational and commercial aspects of the shipping industry followed by a comprehensive and practical insight into the specialist subject of Port & Terminal Management. The course  introduces candidates to contemporary management practices in Ports and Terminals,  all operational aspects of port functions from financing, legal concerns and planning to competition, equipment and marketing.

Structure of the Diploma:

The Advanced Diploma in Port & Terminal Management comprises five (05) modules. The first four modules are the four compulsory Group 1 subjects of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) U.K. as follows:

  • Introduction to Shipping
  • Economics of Sea Transport & International Trade
  • Legal Principles in Shipping Business
  • Shipping Business

The fifth module of the Advanced Diploma is “Port & Terminal Management”, the Group 2 specialist subject of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) U.K. covering the following key topics

  • Ports and their functions
  • Ships and their cargoes
  • Port and terminal management
  • Port and terminal finance
  • Legal aspects in port/terminal management
  • Port and terminal competition
  • Port and terminal marketing
  • Port and terminal planning
  • Port and terminal pricing
  • Port and terminal equipment
  • Port and terminal ownership

Diploma outcome:

  • Acquire a thorough knowledge and understanding of Port and Terminal Management
  • Learn about different aspects of port and terminal operations and the port environment and how ports compete for trade and develop over time.

Course Details

Duration: The diploma course duration is six hundred (600) hours comprising four hundred and fifty (450) hours of classroom / online teaching and one hundred and fifty (150) hours of assignments, case studies and presentation spread over thirty (30) weeks The classes will be conducted from Sunday to Thursday every week from 0800 hours to 1100 hours.

Assessment: Written assessments comprising subjective questions as well as quizzes with 60% passing marks.

Attendance: 90% attendance is required

Entry Requirements: Preferred entry requirement is a bachelor degree in any discipline. Minimum entry requirement is a Diploma in a relevant discipline accompanied with minimum of 2 years of experience.

Advanced Diploma Award: On successful completion of the Diploma Course comprising five (05) modules, an Advanced Diploma in Port & Terminal Management will be issued by Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy recognised by National Qualification Authority (NQA) U.A.E. certifying that the holder of the certificate has completed thirty credits (1350 hours) of structured learning in Port & Terminal Management. The Diploma will also provide details of the topics that are covered.
