Advanced Diploma in Nautical Science (U.K)

Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy (ADMA) in collaboration with South Shields Marine School (SSMS) offer this programme of Advanced Diploma in Nautical Science (U.K) qualification awarded by Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) leading to OOW Certificate of Competency from UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). This programme is offered to high school graduates, aiming to become a Ship Captain and sail the international waters on ocean going ships.
On completion of this Programme a successful candidate will hold an Advanced Diploma in Nautical Science awarded by SQA and a DOOW Certificate of Competency (III/1) from MCA, both from the United Kingdom (U.K)
The programme is divided into four (4) phases.
Phase 1 – (Approx 40 weeks) Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy (ADMA) will provide a comprehensive training programme, which will include theory and practical classes, project work, group exercises and discussions consistent with the Programme.
On successful completion of this Phase 1 and five (5) STCW Basic Training Courses at ADMA, the students are permitted to proceed to the U.K College to pursue a 40-week 2nd phase.
Phase 2 – (Approx 40 weeks) Delivery and Assessment of Advanced Diploma Year 2 Units at South Shields Marine School (SSMS), U.K.
On successful completion of this Phase 2 the students are Awarded Advanced Diploma Nautical Science by SQA.
Phase 3 – 15 months of Qualifying Sea Service. Completion of MNTB Training Record book and production of Navigation and Operations Workbook.
Development of Practical Skills and application knowledge (including 6 months on duties associated with Bridge watchkeeping).
Completion of mandatory short courses at MCA Approved Centre.
Phase 4 – 14 Weeks at South Shields Marine School (SSMS), U.K. Preparation for MCA SQA Written Examinations and MCA Oral examination. Completion of mandatory advanced courses. Award MCA Deck Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competency.
End of Cadetship and programme.
Four (4) Years.
General Secondary Certificate / Secondary School Diploma Certificate (Grade 12) in English, Science, Math Streams – with overall grade of at least 70%.
An IELTS minimum score of 5.5 (out of 9)
Medically and physically fit with the required eye sight standards for both visual acuity and colour vision with test results as per the the MCA.
