Advanced Diploma in Marine Engineering Technology (ADMET)

Course Description:

This programme is intended to provide the students with the knowledge, skills and competency necessary to prepare them to perform safely and effectively the duties of a Marine Engineer Officer in charge of an engineering watch in a manned engine room, or designated duty engineer in a periodically unmanned engine room, on board ships of unlimited voyage in accordance with the International Convention and Code of the Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) 1978, with the 2010 Manila Amendments.

The programme is pending accreditation by National Qualifications Authority (NQA) and UAE Federal Maritime Authority (FMA).

A student graduate of the Advanced Diploma in Marine Engineering Technology (ADMET) who has successfully completed the approved shipboard training programme will be eligible to sit for the Oral Examination at UAE Federal Maritime Authority (FMA) for an Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch Certificate of Competency (COC).

The practice of the Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch COC (sometimes referred to as Watchkeeping Engineer COC) on board the ship, complemented by sufficient seatime and compliance with applicable STCW training requirements, leads to the rank progression of 4th Engineer Officer, 3rd Engineer Officer, 2nd Engineer Officer, and lastly, Chief Engineer Officer, the highest ranking officer in the Engine Department, with four (4) shoulder stripes.

Prospective ADMET graduates who wish to venture in a non-seafaring career may also pursue other profession such as:

  • Ship technical superintendent
  • Shipyard maintenance engineer
  • Classification society surveyor
  • Marine insurance surveyor
  • Offshore engineer
  • Engine maker specialist
  • Port state control officer
  • Power plant engineer
  • Maritime academician

Duration: 3 Years

Pending Accreditation by National Qualifications Authority (NQA) and UAE Federal Maritime Authority (FMA).

Entry Requirements:

  1.  General Secondary Certificate / Secondary School Diploma Certificate (Grade 12) in Science/Math Streams – with overall grade of at least 60%.
  2.  Medically and physically fitness certificate
  3.  A valid English language proficiency certificate with a minimum score of either 1100 EmSAT, 5 IELTS, 500 TOEFL (PBT), 61 TOEFL (IBT), or 173 TOEFL (CBT).
